The primary care clinic at Moncrief Cancer Institute provides comprehensive, coordinated medical care for cancer survivors. Our full-service clinic offers a broad spectrum of health services, ranging from preventive care to chronic disease management. We help cancer survivors at any stage of treatment improve their quality of life by optimizing control of chronic medical conditions, reducing modifiable risks, providing psychosocial and mental health care, and addressing the long-term or late effects from cancer treatment.

The clinic is staffed by three knowledgeable, compassionate, and accessible UT Southwestern family medicine physicians as well as a certified physician assistant. They partner with the Harold C. Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center to provide cancer specialists and support services such as behavioral and nutritional counselors, exercise specialists, and geneticists to provide optimal medical care and well-being for cancer survivors. If specialty care is needed, our physicians can provide a referral while continuing to manage your overall care.

Scheduled Appointments Include:

  • Management of chronic health conditions, such as abnormal cholesterol, diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension
  • Promotion of healthy lifestyles (diet, exercise, and smoking cessation)
  • Acute illness care
  • Assessment for recurrence of cancer and screening for secondary cancers
  • Coordination of care with oncology care team

Jessica Barreto, M.D.

Dr. Jessica Barreto is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. She specializes in family medicine. Dr. Barreto earned her medical degree at the Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) in Cuba and then completed a residency through the Cook County-Loyola University Family Medicine Program in Chicago. Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, Dr. Barreto served as a Faculty Associate at UT Southwestern’s Outpatient Family Medicine-Primary Care Clinic in Dallas from 2014 to 2016. She then provided primary care services to Fort Worth’s medically underserved populations and trained medical students in family medicine through the University of North Texas and John Peter Smith Hospital. She rejoined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2021. Dr. Barreto is fluent in Spanish.

Rebecca Eary, D.O., M.P.H.

Dr. Rebecca Eary is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at UT Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Eary earned her medical degree at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency at West Suburban Medical Center. Certified by the American Board of Osteopathic Family Physicians, she joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2019. Dr. Eary’s academic and research interests include primary care for cancer survivors and complicated chronic disease management.

Stephanie Lawrence, PA-C

Stephanie Lawrence is a board-certified Physician Assistant (PA) at Moncrief Cancer Institute. She specializes in cancer prevention, early detection, and survivorship. Mrs. Lawrence earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, and her Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies at The University of North Texas Health Science Center. Her clinical interests include fertility preservation in cancer patients and the late effects of cancer treatment.
